Another 4 are back in Barrie after an amazing trip to Fiji. Nancy & Dave and Sharon C. and Danielle! Nancy and Dave were on an island so I cannot speak for them but for Danielle and I Fiji is Just a little slilce of Heaven. Imagine sitting, drifting in a kayak in the middle of the south Pacific without a care in the world. Clearest water ever and purest beaches ever. Great way t o end an already amazing Holiday. Wish you were all there with us -- you were in our hearts and in our thoughts all the way-----and that last race was over the top!!!! Thanks to Karen for encouraging us all the way, and to Janis for her never-ending support to the very end. We can never forget Sandy J. for all of the work she did with Pacesetter Travel---a very tedious job well done. Thanks to all of our Team for Fundraising and Encouragement. What a Memory!! -------------------------------------------------------------------- E-mail msg received from Sue Macallum on Wednesday, 10/03/07: I had a phone call from Donna & Bev this AM - 7:45 here, 9:45 PM there. They had been to the Great Barrier Reef snorkeling today (Wed.) which was wonderful and were calling from Cairns. On Thurs. AM they were being picked up at 4:00 AM to catch a flight to Sydney. They spent Tues, in the Rain Forest and on a steam train ride. The races went well, especially on the Sunday but I still don't understand where they placed overall. According to Donna EVERYTHING is wonderful! Part of the hold up on the way there was due to Canadian paddlers being quarantined because of an algae problem in B.C. and some peoples' lifejackets & gloves had to washed off. There was a late flight in L.A. & a missed connection and then delays in Australia. However, they're over that now and having a great adventure. Apparently, Sherry's sister was most reluctant to snorkel on the Grt. Barrier Reef but finally did decide to and was very glad she did. They have been unable to email but were able to call me free of charge using their computer. Bev said they were finally able to receive the blog messages (on Sun.?) and she read them out to everyone and there were quite a few tears. They both want to sat "hi" to everyone. I think they miss us! Sue ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Message received from Karen Owen on Monday night (10/01/07): Sorry we have not had any internet and we are just at an internet cafe across from the Hotel in Cairns. They have been able just lately to go to the blog which seems to be working well. Today is Tuesday 5:30 ish and we have just returned form the rain forest it was a little damp but was a great day. We did very well at the races we had three on Sat. and two on Sun. our last race was the best we have ever done. After the first day we were 43 out of 73 teams. On Sunday we came 4th in the first race and 2nd in the last race but there were times during that race we were in the lead and we have pictures to show that. This will probably be the last time I connect with you but if you could put something on our web site for people to check the blog that will send more people to that spot. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 09/26/07 - Unfortunately, we don't have access to a computer that will allow us to add pictures right now. We'll do that as soon as possible....likely Monday night AU time would be the earliest. We will try to e-mail you with some pertinent information about the event prior to this. We had our first practice today, another on Friday. Opening ceremony and parade, etc also on Friday, then the races on Saturday & Sunday. Donna & Bev ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 09/25/07 - Diane said... Bev and team took 44 hours with Qantas delays. Their unit doesn't have internet access so they hope to sort this out soon and be in touch. I'll be waving my Canadian flag as I live 45 minutes from the event site.
